Case Poster Symbiosis

One word, one grid, one green, repeated until the city starts to recognise it.

The brief

The biennale ran from 18 October to 30 November 2024 across several venues. It needed to be recognisable from across a station platform, in Japanese and English.

The work

Every piece is built on the same 6 × 8 construction grid. The first poster stacks the name until it fills the sheet, the second reduces it to an interlocking knot symbol, the third sets TOKYO vertically through the grid. All three are two-colour silkscreen: black ink over a fluorescent green that is slightly misregistered on purpose.

Poster III: TOKYO set through the construction grid

The result

The poster series was hung in all 30 stations on the Yamanote line and won a Tokyo TDC Annual Award in 2025.
